Sergio Gaviria is a chemist from the National University of Colombia. He worked at Ingeominas (today the Colombian Geological Service) in the area of geochemistry for twenty years.
In 1994 he obtained a Doctorate in Pedology from the University of Nancy (France) with a work on soil geochemistry of the Eastern Plains. In 1999 he joined the National University of Colombia to the Department of Geosciences and the EIA as a researcher and teacher of the subjects "Chemical Foundations of Geology", "Geochemistry", "Clay Geology" and "Weathering Processes".
He develops geoecological studies with an emphasis on paleoenvironments, arcillogenesis and hydrogeochemistry.
